Title: Simple lab methods to determine atomic weights and valency
Post by: cliverlong on February 14, 2010, 05:40:56 PM
Does anyone know of simple (school lab) methods to determine (approximately) atomic weights and valency in order to determine experimentally formulae of simple compounds, say magnesium oxide or copper oxide by heating these substances in air and measuring weight gain?

I'm not looking for anything fantasticaly accurate (within 10% would be "good") but just something to show how to assign values.

Thanks

Clive
