Title: calculate ratio of BOD to COD given fs value for glucose
Post by: rzbizzy on May 08, 2010, 07:54:50 PM
Hi, so the question is:

The biochemical oxygen demand is the amount of oxygen consumed when a substrate is
biologically oxidized to carbon dioxide. Assuming an fS value of 0.4, calculate the ratio of
biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) to chemical oxygen demand (COD) for glucose.

I wrote down the equation below, and know that fs + fe =1. I don't know what the steps are to relating it to BOD and COD. Thanks for your help.

C6H12O6 + 6O2 → 6CO2+  6H2O

fs = 0.4, fe = 0.6
