Title: Thermodynamics, JM Smith
Post by: arpit619 on July 13, 2013, 07:17:36 AM
2.3)An egg, initially at rest, is dropped onto a concrete surface and breaks. With the egg treated as the system:
a) What is the sign of W?
b)What is the sign of ΔEp?
c) what is ΔEk?
d) what is ΔUt?
e) what is the sign of Q?
In modeling this process, assume the passage of sufficient time for the broken egg to return to its intitial temperature. What is the origin of the heat transfer of part (e)?

2.8)A closed, nonreactive system contains species 1 and 2 in vapor/liquid equilibrium. Species 2 is
a very light gas, essentially insoluble in the liquid phase. The vapor phase contains both species 1
and 2. Some additional moles of species 2 are added to the system, which is then restored to its
initial T and P. As a result of the process, does the total number of moles of liquid increase,
decrease, or remain unchanged? and Why?

You must show you have attempted the question, this is a Forum Rule (http://www.chemicalforums.com/index.php?topic=65859.0).

2.8) since no liquid component is added into the system the number of moles of liquid should remain the same.... so no change in the number of liquid moles.

2.3) I am unable to approach this question, new to thermodynamics. :(

Wrong.
