Title: LaTeX
Post by: Burner on March 20, 2016, 12:57:13 AM
So I have just typed a LaTeX expression for the first time in my life (Here: http://www.chemicalforums.com/index.php?topic=85093.0) :)

And I am confused about when to use $$, when to use [tex][/tex] and when to use [itex][/itex] to type LaTeX, I would like some clarification on this. Thanks!

when to use $$, when to use [tex][/tex]

These are equivalent, with the latter being preferred.

Quote
and when to use [itex][/itex]

tex tags give you an equation on its own line [tex]a=b[/tex], (note the comma being pushed down to the next line) while itex tags produce an in line equation [itex]a=b[/itex], which doesn't interrupt the flow of the text.
