Hi all I've been lately problems in Hg contamination (which im unsure of)regarding samples induced into Agilent 700 ICP OES , I couldn't understand all my samples and BLANKS also give a slight indication of Hg present . Please help me what can I do ?? 😩

1. Are you doing a Hg analysis? I.e., is there supposed to be Hg in, for example, your standards? In this case, it is probably a carry over problem. I believe Hg (like Au) sticks to plastic sample introduction parts and washout times can be longer than expected.
2. If you don't have a reason to expect Hg contamination (e.g., not doing a mercury analysis), then (a) how do you know it's mercury and (b) you should probably be concerned if you have high levels of mercury in your immediate environment.

Thanks Corribus, I just wanted believe it was a carry over problem from my standards. I wasn't doing Hg analysis (for all other transition metals in this case) but slightly small amounts in 0. where indicated on ALL my results even in the blanks sample (DI water) which is of my major concern .(I mean the blank should not contain any heavy metals)
Anyways just to be on the safe side I did a thoroughly cleaning on the spray chamber with the nebulizer . Recalibrated the machine and carefully did a prove check on all my standards preparation. Now I got things going the way I expected theres no more Hg readings in my blanks. Thanks again man your a genius.😊
