Title: Quantum numbers
Post by: Shadiiy on October 05, 2018, 02:34:14 PM
We're being asked a question on an assignment that says the following:

"List all possible values for the missing quantum number for the hydrogen atom:"

d. n=?, l=2, m_l=1

Now, I've been told that n=3,4,5 by my instructor. I don't understand. How can one determine n to stop at the value 5? I was assuming (prior to knowing the answer) that n≥3 - not for it to stop at 5

That would be my answer as well.
