Title: does newspaper ink contain lead and other chemical substance?

*I think I might be overreacting, however, I still want to know,
very often when people nearby drop their newspaper onto the table,
we can feel a bit of the newspaper smell, what is that smell? I
think the smell is a gaseous form of something, right?
are they toxic? could there be any residue left on the table or around
the air from the newspaper?

Composition of inks has significantly changed in the last 30-40 years to make them much safer. Inks require solvents to make them liquid, these can can be smelled while drying out, but they are also selected for safety.

Lead is out of the question, it was a potential problem some 50-60 years ago, when the lead based types were used.
