preperation of Ni(II) and Co(III) hexamine complexes
« on: March 06, 2007, 03:42:35 AM »
:-\ ??? :'(   :-[. so many emotions but basically i need help with my university experiment lab write up.

To make Ni(NH3)6Cl2 we dissolved NiCl2.(H20)6 in water and added some concentrated ammonia. the solution went fromgreen to deep blue. Now i assume that means that the H20 molecules have been replaced by ammonia molecules. But then to get the Ni(NH3)6Cl2 percipitate the mixture is cooled and ethanol is added.
What purpose does the ethanol serve?

Wait for follow up questions.
