Hi,I'm very uncomfortable with this "directional character of bonds".What does it exacylt mean?

I think its refering to the bond angles, molecular geometry. i.e. linear, bent, trigonal-planar, tetrahedral, trigonal-bipyramidal, octahedral. Have a look at VSEPR theory.
