Dehydrating ethylenediamine
« on: December 13, 2004, 01:29:44 AM »
I am in need of a little assistance, I have a supplier of 99% ethylenediamine, but problem is, I need it in the anhydrous state, and am not too familiar with the chemistry of it, could anyone suggest a suitable dehydrating agent?

I was thinking along the lines of something cheaper and more obtainable really, molecular sives are a little hard to come by, any chemical dehydratants I could use?

It depends on accessible water content, for drying amines dry solid KOH is used also

Thanks AWK, I'll have a crack at it with fused NaOH, as I have no KOH at the moment, I guess I will know if it works when alkali metals are added to  the ethylenediamine for reductions.
