Magnesium Oxide and his melting point
« on: September 24, 2007, 01:10:53 PM »
Hi, I have one question for you. I'll be very glad if you help me.

so...

Why does Magnesium Oxide have a high melting point??

I know that Magnesium loses 2 electrons and Oxygen gains it. But I don't know how exactly answer on this question.

Thanks

What kind of compound is magnesium oxide (ionic or covalent)?  When you need to melt magnesium oxide, what kind of bonds are you breaking?
