Hi,
If an aqueous solution of copper(II) nitrate Cu(NO
3
)
2(aq)
is made from 4.758g of Cu(NO
3
)
2
.
2.5H
2
O
(s)
, will there also be 4.758g of copper(II) nitrate? Or do I use the equation Cu(NO
3
)
2
.
2.5H
2
O
(s)
--> Cu(NO
3
)
2(aq)
+ H
2
O

More like the second approach. Note that you are most likely interested in molar concentration - so you just calculate number of moles of Cu(NO
3
)
2
.
2.5H
2
O(s) - taking water molecules into account when calculating salt molar mass.
