catalytic reaction - what is it?

Can anyone explain me catalytic rection? For example disociation of molecule H2 at surface of Pt. I know that catalytic material stays as it is without reaction..it just burst the chemical reaction. Also I know that the electrostatic bonds which are between H-H atoms are disturbed and this implies to disociation. But why they are disturbed? Cant find it over the net. Anyone can help me? Thank you!

Catalysts typically work by lowering the activation barrier of a reaction.
Most Common Suggestions I Make on the Forums.
1. Start by writing a balanced chemical equation.
2. Don't confuse thermodynamic stability with chemical reactivity.

Catalyst mechanisms are complicated and not straight forward. This year's nobel prize was given in part to the studies on surfaces like the one you've asked about. Look up the work of Gerhard Ertl.
