Flame in the AAS
« on: March 25, 2008, 07:50:54 AM »
Hey guys, was just wondering if you could clear up a fact with me,

What is the point of the flame in the AAS. I am aware that is atomizes the elements present, however when the flame is applied to the sample, wouldn't it in fact excite some of the electrons in the sample? Upon returning to their ground state, wouldn't they release a photon of energy that is detected by the AAS?

Dear Sanado;

That would be very close to AES, and not to AAS!

Good Luck!
