Isomers help

my physics (was chem) teacher has challenged me to find some isomers iv done well with octane and the others but when i got up to nonane it has gotted quite hard. is there a method or anything to make the more complex ones easier

I don't know if there is a formula for constitutional isomers. There is however a forumla for stereosimers. I believe it is something like 2^n were n is a stereogenic center/chirality center.
