Look for the "new topic" button in the correct subforum.

$$ CH_{3}CHCH_{3}(CH_{2})_{3}CHCH_{3}(CH_{2})_{3}CHCH_{3}(CH_{2})_{3}CH(CH_{3})CH_{3} /$$

There we go... well, it was working...
Why does mine seem italicized?

Agent-X: Use \text{} around the text you don't want italicized.
Most Common Suggestions I Make on the Forums.
1. Start by writing a balanced chemical equation.
2. Don't confuse thermodynamic stability with chemical reactivity.
3. Forum Supports LaTex

That works.
It would be nice if I could see it in the preview window, though.

Well, I mean a person could use hypens and equal signs. But that would only get so far. I know that certain chemistry programs will allow a person to output in tex formation. But I don't think this forum would accept the format.

Simply you can use a free molecular-drawing software and export the documents in an image format (JPG, PNG or what you prefer), then host and insert in your message the image needed. I do so and it works great  ;)

When I type:

$$ y=mx+b /$$

and then click preview, it doesn't work???

In other forums I would type, say for an integral

[math] \int\frac{1}{1-x^2}dx[/math]

is there a pdf file with all of the commands?

Actually, it does seem to be working. When I clicked "preview' I got something else.

$$ \int\frac{1}{1-x^2}dx /$$
