Precipitate Question
« on: May 04, 2009, 05:27:32 PM »
"To precipitate Ag+ from an aqueous solution, one could add:

A. HNO3
B. NaNO3
C. NH3
D. Zn(NO3)2
E. NaCl

The answer is E, but I'm unsure how you know that. Why don't the other ones work?

What do you know about weakly soluble salts of silver? About weakly soluble salts in general? Do you know solubility rules?

I don't know anything about weakly soluble salts of silver.

I usually just use a handout on solubility rules to answer my questions, but I don't know them off the top of my head.

For sure the answer is in the solubility rules. Where you will check it - doesn't matter.
