quick help please on organometallic chemistry,
« on: May 28, 2009, 10:15:11 AM »
Hey Guys,

I have got this question:

In each of the following reactions predict the products:
i. [Os(CO)4]2- + 2 MeI --> A

I know that A should be [Os(CO)4(Me)2] but when i work through this myself, I'm not sure why the Iodine shouldn't be added to the complex.

ii. [Mn2(CO)10] + Na/Hg --> B

I'm not quite sure about what role the Na/Hg is playing in this reaction?

iii. [Mn2(CO)10] + Cl2 --> E

I think that E should be [Mn(CO)5Cl] but I'm really not sure why?

Thanks for anyhelp that you could give me, I'm very grateful. I'm not really very great at organometallic chemistry as i prefer just pure organic chemistry.
