Calculating volume of a reaction mixture
« on: October 18, 2009, 08:05:19 PM »
I have to a multi step problem.  I know I know how to do this stuff, but I am having a brain freeze.
heres the problem:

When 100.0 mL of 1.020M NaOH was added to 100.0 mL of 1.000M HNO3, the temperature rose from 21.13 C to 27.90 C.

I have to calculate the temperature change, which I did.
Then I have to calculate the volume of the reaction mixture.
But I have NO idea how to do that.
Please help

Oh common, you mix 100 mL with 100 mL, what is the final volume?

I am serious.

In reality it is not that easy - volumes are not additive. But in most cases this is a reasonable approximation.
