stick figure help please!

For extra credit on our exam we have to draw the wanted character and explain what he means.  I am lost at figuring out what each of these guys represent.  Any help would be awesome!

This is a chemistry exam.

You are given a series of symbols and you notice there are components that increase as you go through the sequence and some symbols repeat but only after a certain number of stick-people. Do these repeating numbers remind you of anything?

Count some of the components of the figures. can you see any patterns emerging? Does this remind you of any chemical patterns you know?

ok...  the hair goes 1, 2, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 1, 2, 3, 4 .  6, 7, 8
so i assume my wanted guy has 5 curls.

the bodies get slightly bigger each guy, so i assume my guy is almost a circle but i cannot figure out what the inside shapes signify.  Looking at patters going verticle then my guy would have 2 triangles.

For the fingers the number on the left is the same as the number of curls they have for the first few then the same number of curls as fingers on the bottom right hand...  so my guy would have 8 fingers on the left hand, 2 on the top hand and 5 on the bottom hand. 

I know elements want nobel gas configurations so that would make sence with the 8's but im still confused with the 2 on the top right hand and what the symbols in the body mean.  unless im on the wrong path.

ok so my "Wanted!" element is Phosphorus based on the shell right?  2, 8, 5.  So the fingers are electrons.  Do the symbols in the body represent anything?

they have the same number of curls besides 2 and eight so my guy would have 2 triangles pointing up.  I just dont know what that represents.  I know exactly what my guy will look like i just have to figure out what the stuff means. 

Do the curls represent what group the element is in?

I am glad you got the answer, but I still wonder what some of the other stuff means or is it junk to distract you.

Why are some smiles and some frowns?
What is the difference between speckles, dot, triangles, square, etc?

Since this is not my post and do not have a lot of time I will stay baffled.

yeah i wonder that too.  I emailed my teacher and told him what i know but asked if there were other stuff I'm missing.  I'll post my findings when I hear anything.
