How does 1,1,1-Trichloroethane test for halides

Hey everyone its me again. According to what i've heard, certain indicators are weak acids and buffer solutions that dissiscioate at certain pH values to form colored ions.
How does 1,1,1-Trichloroethane test for halides? What causes the change in color?

Since TCE is a halide, I imagine it is used as a substrate. The usual chemical wet tests are called the Beilstein test and the silver nitrate test.

can this be represented in an equation? What causes the color change?

I forgot about the sodium iodide in acetone test.

In the case of the Bellstein test, one makes a copper halide - which burns a certain color (copper halides are used in fireworks).
CuO + 2 R-X (X is the halogen) -> CuX2 + R2O

In the silver nitrate test, silver abstracts halides... this salt tends to precipitate out of solution.
Ag+(aq) + X-(aq) -> AgX (s)

In the case of sodium iodide, it is a bit soluble in acetone, whereas sodium chloride isn't. So, R-Cl + NaI -> NaCl... so you'll see a white solid precipitate out of the solution if there is chloride in there.

ah i see however, TCH tests for halides are specific, a test for iodide will produce a purple color whereas bromine will be brown in a solution or oily form

since no one really is really replying me. how about a speculate.
Does the halogens dissolve in the trichloroethane (organic solvent) which produces its color?
