Preparation of palladium catalysts
« on: August 21, 2010, 02:36:21 PM »
Hi folks,

I'm looking for some solid preps on the synthesis of palladium catalysts, such as PdCl2, PdCl2(PPh3)2, PdCl2dppf etc.

I have found some stuff on google, but what I am after is a good solid prep, preferably something verified by experience...

Cheers!

Hi,

one of the best book for the preparation of basic organometallic compound is "the synthesis of organometallic compounds"

for the compound you mention, the best is to start from PdCl2(R-CN)2 (R= Me or ph) and exchange the nitrile ligand with the desired phosphine (PPh3 or dppf)

the nitrile palladium complex is prepared from PdCl2, as indicated in the book.

There are several journal articles where you can get these procedures. However, 'synthesis of organometallic compounds' is certainly a good book. One good thing abt these complexes is that you can vary the solvents used during the synthesis. I used acetone instead of methanol/ ethanol for synthesizing several Pd complexes (MeOH / EtOH are sometimes difficult to get rid of and may show up in 1H).
