Hello.  I received a private message but am unable to respond to it.  I'm also unable to create a new private message to that user to provide a response.  Can you tell me what i need to do to be able to send a reply?

Thanks,
-Scott

Do any of the following:
  • Click reply in the message you received
  • Go to his/her forum profile and click on "Send this member a personal message."
  • Click on New message and fill in the user name.

Those options JUST became available to me.  There were not there before.  Clicking "new message" told me i was not allowed to send messages...  now it doesn't.  What gives?

Thanks for your reply,
-Scott

New members (with fewer than a couple of posts) are prohibited from sending private messages.  We had to implement this policy after members began receiving spam messages with pornographic images in them (see http://www.chemicalforums.com/index.php?topic=14554.0).

All you need is greater than 1 post on the forum to send messages. It is rarely an issue but comes up from time to time.

Most Common Suggestions I Make on the Forums.
1. Start by writing a balanced chemical equation.
2. Don't confuse thermodynamic stability with chemical reactivity.
3. Forum Supports LaTex

Yep, I have had problems with this but I'm hoping that this question might solve it just by posting!

Its still not working, but perhaps a third post will sort it out.

Thanks,
