Free radical halogenation of alkanes by Br2
« on: March 01, 2011, 01:05:53 AM »
So this reaction can be initiated by heat ultraviolet light and peroxide.  Now does what you're using to initiate the reaction change the initiation steps of the mechanisms i.e. will using light/heat cause the initiation to be a split of the Br2 into two radicals while using peroxide will initiate a radical by first splitting the peroxide then using that to pull an H to from the radical alkane?  Does this sound right?
