Oxidation State of Nitrogen
« on: June 12, 2011, 11:34:14 PM »
One mole of N2H4 loses 10 moles of electrons to form a new compound 'Y'. Assuming all N2 appears in the new compound, what is the oxidation state of nitrogen in the new compound?

Please help me to solve this. Thanks.

calculate oxidation number of N in N2H4
If only N2H4 loses 10 electrons , oxidation state of each N should increase by 5
