Alternative Sources for Aerogel Silicates
« on: March 03, 2012, 08:20:56 PM »
Hi Guys,

Knowing that TMOS and TEOS are rather expensive sources of silicate, I was wondering if it would be possible to use silicate deposits produced from organisms like bacteria or diatoms and convert it into the silicate ions used to produce the network of silicon-oxygen bridges in a silica gel?

Thanks,
Byron

see it depends on the amount of silicates you are getting from organisms.May be this process will be more time consuming and will give you very less concentration of the desired ions.
