what does "CS" mean?
« on: June 09, 2012, 05:18:57 PM »
Hello,

I have this problem from a general chemistry guide but I have no idea what "cs" means. I already look online but I can't find an acronym that makes sense with this one.

Can someone please let me know what does it mean?

This is the problem

CS is positive for the following reaction:

a) 2H2(g) + O2(g)---> 2H2O(g)
b) 2NO2(g)--->N2O4(g)
c) CO2(g)--->CO2(s)
d) BaF2(s)-->Ba2+(aq)  +  2F-(aq)
e)  2Hg(l) + O2(g)-->2HgO(s)

thanks in advance

Maybe something to do with entropy? How about "Change in S" :-\

Who said deltaS is positive for those reactions? They definitely are not all positive.

Nobody said that.

They definitely are not all positive.

And that's what the question is about - select those reactions where ΔS is positive.

Woops. I read that as 'deltaS is positive for all the following reactions.
