Pentanol to Pentane and Propyne to Propene
« on: December 04, 2012, 01:47:24 PM »
Hello everyone.. I have some homework to do and I have a problem to get the answer for one of questions.

Write the reaction of bromo-2-propene from propyne ..

The question must be solved like below:

Example: write the reaction of chlorine-1-pentane from pentanol-1
-C-C-C-C-C-OH + HCl    -->   -C-C-C-C-C-Cl + H2O

You should show your attempt, this is a Forum Rule

Start by writing an equation for what you know, i.e. translate this word equation into a chemical equation:

2-Bromoprpene :rarrow: propyne + unknown product(s)

Compare the formula of 2-bromopropene and propyne. What is missing that would balance the equation?
