Synthesis of Benzocaine
« on: December 09, 2012, 05:11:08 PM »
I'm writing a final report for the 4 step synthesis of Benzocaine.  Attached it a page showing the reactions needed for the synthesis. I cannot for the life of me find any information about the first reaction.  Its the one with acid catalyzed reaction with acetic anhydride.  I'm guessing its an acetylation of a primary amine, but if anyone with a little bit more experience could just give me a name so I can get the ball rolling.

I don't think this is a Named reaction, it's just an acylation of an amine.
Try drawing the reaction out and you will see what is going on.
