In an experiment at 240 degrees celcius, it was found that for the reaction:

PCl3(g) + Cl2(g) <---> PCl5(g)

a) Calculate Kc for the reaction at this temperature.
b) if the volume of the reaction vessel is halved, calculate the new concentrations once equilibrium is re-established.

Work:

a) Kc=[.1]/([.1][.1])
    Kc=10

b) 10=[.1/2]/(
  • )

    10=[.05]/X^2
    10X^2=[.05]
    x^2=[.05]
    x=.071
   therefore the new concentrations are: PCl3=.071 | Cl2=.071  | PCl5= .5

is this correct?

...it was found that PCl3, PCl5 and Cl2 were all 10% v/v and the rest were inerts.  :) Guessing!

...it was found that PCl3, PCl5 and Cl2 were all 10% v/v and the rest were inerts.  :) Guessing!
umm, so is my work correct?

OOOH SOORRRRYYYY I FORGOT TO INCLUDE A PART!

QUESTION:

In an experiment at 240 degrees celcius, it was found that for the reaction:

PCl3(g) + Cl2(g) <---> PCl5(g)

equilibrium concentrations werer 0.100 mol/L PCl5.

a) Calculate Kc for the reaction at this temperature.
b) if the volume of the reaction vessel is halved, calculate the new concentrations once equilibrium is re-established.
