What is the product when phenylethylamine reacts with CO2
« on: April 27, 2009, 12:38:41 AM »
I have this question, I have been checking constantly and I cannot find the answer. All I find is that phenylethylamine "absorbs" co2 from the atmosphere.
I have tried using Diels-Alder mechamism to try to figure it out, and I get a two ring molecules but the ring I get has in the middle a o-(c=o)- "bridge" just in the middle, and it does not seem to pretty (In fact I have never seen anything like that. Also the literature says it forms a "carbonate salt" which makes me think that the mechamism consist of several steps (to form the CO3?)
Please I need this help
Thanks for help.
P.S. If you can include a picture of how the final molecule looks like it would be of great help.
Again thanks.
