"When hexane burns in oxygen, carbon dioxide and water form. How many litres of carbon dioxide form when 160g of hexane burns?"

2C₆H₁₄ + 19O₂ -> 12CO₂ + 14H₂O

So, this is the balance equation I got. I'm struggling to work this out because I use the general triangle formulas but my friend said to use the STP for gases.

My answer was 0.234L but hers was over 250L which seems too much when you only have 160g of hexane to begin with.

Any help at all is appreciated!

No idea what the general triangle formulas is but I do know your friend is right.

Hexane is a liquid and carbon dioxide is a gas; your answer is nonsense while again your friend knows what they are doing.

(160/86.17)*6*22.4=249.55L

As cryptically posted by RRRYYY123

The correct approach is to calculate how many moles is 160g of hexane.

From your balanced reaction equation you can see that you get 6 moles of carbon dioxide from every mole of hexane.

A mole of gas at STP occupies 22.4L.
