Synthesis of Methyl Orange and Para Red
« on: March 11, 2006, 08:10:14 PM »
Hey,

We just recently synthesized methyl orange and para red in our lab, for both product, we obtained a yield greater than 100%.  I'm not sure if there's more complicated and indepth answer to why we did get so much besides the product was very wet. Any ideas??

Determine the yield when the product is thoroughly dry. If you still have a >100% yield the product is most likely impure or you made an error in weighing or calculations.

Yelds of reactions diazotizing are near by 98%, I think, you should recristallyze methylorange from water.
