« on: April 23, 2014, 11:10:07 PM »
How many of the following can make a buffer?
NaOCH3 and HOCH3
H2SO4 and NaOH
H2S and NaF
NH4Cl in excess and NaOH
NH3 excess and HCl

The answer is 2.
I know the 1st one can make a buffer for sure... but can someone please explain to me how another one would work?

You should write each reaction that would happen, with the acid-base properties of each reactive and product.

First things first - what is a buffer? What does it contain?
