Grad School: Polymer Chemistry
« on: June 24, 2014, 08:51:02 PM »
Recently, I've been looking into graduate schools which have numerous professors specializing in polymer chemistry. Unfortunately, the search hasn't been going well, as it seems many schools still don't have strong materials/polymer area, and most lists of good schools for polymer chemistry are not recent.

So my question is this: what are some good schools (top tier or otherwise) which have strong polymer chemistry groups?

(If it helps, I would like to stay in academia rather than go into industry, but I'm not sure how this should factor into my search for grad schools.)

Also look into Material Sci & Chem. Eng. programs if you are so inclined.

Some of the polymer faculty hides in there.

Oh, thank you for the suggestion! I hadn't considered looking into other departments.

I know that the University of Massachusetts Amherst has a very well regarded PhD program in polymers, and I believe it is its own program. If I recall they also have a very generous stipend compared to most programs. The program is separate from the chemistry department.

THe University of Akron (Ohio) has by reputation one of the strongest polymer science schools in the US.
