HPTLC plate and detection with UV indicator
« on: July 03, 2014, 01:58:46 AM »
Hello, i am wondering if the presence of the F254 (UV) indicator in an HTPLC plate will still allow for detection using a dye.  Currently, a dye is used for detection but i found a great deal on some plates with the F254 indicator and i'm just wondering if we can still use the dye for detection on these plates or do they have to be used with a UV light?  Thanks

The UV phosphor used in these TLC plates really doesn't interfere with external staining, so you should be fine.

Thanks, since the dye we use is mixed with water and then applied to the plate, do we need to use plates that are water resistant also?  I am noticing the results are a little blurry so i was thinking the water is getting into the plate and blurring everything....

Are you dipping your plates into an aqueous solution of the dye ??

Suggest you dissolve the dye in ethanol and apply it via an atomizer spray.
