Invent ways to convert alumina to aluminum
« on: July 29, 2014, 11:02:20 PM »
Hi
I am Looking for a way to convert alumina to aluminum without a Hall-Heroult process and without using Soduim

Is it true that: Al2O3 + 3H2 ==> 2Al + 3H2O ??

I am not a specialist in chemistry, but I do not think that the Hall-Heroult process is the only way capable of producing aluminum
Thanks and sorry for my bad English:)

EDIT:
Rewrote your formula with proper formatting

Al2O3 + 3H2 :rarrow: 2Al + 3H2O

Here's a web page that explains the Activity series:  http://antoine.frostburg.edu/chem/senese/101/redox/faq/activity-series.shtml  You can see aluminum metal in relation to other metals and hydrogen.  You can see if the reaction will proceed.  There are other concerns, like if its easy to control, or economically feasible, but you can figure those out later.
Hey, I'm not judging.  I just like to shoot straight.  I'm a man of science.
