Fermentation is suitable for ethanol only. Can"t we use fructose or any other sugar for the preparation of other alcohol??

Many fermentations do not produce ethanol at all.  It depends on the organism.  IMO fermentation is more usefully defined as the anaerobic catabolism of a carbohydrate.

Also, many labs are working on creating genetically modified microbes that will ferment gasoline products. The work of Jay Keasling comes to mind.
