How to store used Ferric Chloride solution for PCB etching ?
« on: December 18, 2014, 08:55:06 PM »
Hi,

I have read somewhere in forum that we can reuse Ferric chloride solution which was last used for PCB Etching. I have a Question. How to store that solution ? Should i kept it open to AIR ? or should i take it in plastic air tight container ?

Please help me.

Thanks.

In a closed container. It won't further oxidize in air, but why not close it?

I have PCB etching system. That had a ventilated holes above. So i thought its not good idea to keep it open permanently. So after etching is done. I remove all liquid from system and put it in plastic bottles.

so that would be helpful for reusing that used ferric chloride solution.

Open container will make the solution dry out. Not only it will stink of HCl, after drying it will be of no use.

Contact with air have some potential benefits (Fe(II) being oxidized to Fe(III)), but I would keep it closed.
