Can someone check these resonance structures for me?
« on: January 22, 2015, 08:03:53 PM »
Good evening,

It has been about a year out of classes for me and I am helping an Organic Chemistry student with resonance structures. We came across the following problem and I am not entirely sure as to whether these are the correct resonance structures. Here I am following the rule for allylic positive charges for the first step, but I think I could be wrong with the second resonance structure. Could someone confirm this for me?

Thank you kindly in advance for your assistance!

Hey guys,

I think I got it, actually. I will post the new solution just to get a confirmation!

Thanks again!

The second one looks OK to me. The first has a 1,4-transannular hydride shift - remember, no atoms move between resonance structures.
