equation needed ?
« on: January 25, 2015, 06:38:59 PM »
Task says that i should write an equation and name the type of equation. Calcium  nitrate is given as reactant and gypsum as product. Now I should somehow write an equation(s) to get gypsum from calcium nitrate but I have no idea what to do. I first thought of combining calcium nitrate with sulphuric acid.

That could be the answer, or it could be just a starting point to a correct answer.  Why not write a chemical equation, balance it, and we'll all see?
Hey, I'm not judging.  I just like to shoot straight.  I'm a man of science.

Well, one other problem is also that I think I don't understand shat means the multiplication sign(dot) in CaSO4ยท2H2O . Also I already looked on the internet and after which I camw with that the reaction of calcium nitrate and sulphuric acid would be: Ca(NO3)2 + H2SO4 :rarrow: CaSO4 + 2HNO3
But still I didn't get gypsum and I don't know if anYthing else was possible to combine and get it nor what to do with this now.
