Analysis of Urine
« on: February 25, 2015, 03:37:44 AM »
I have a demonstration about the analysis of urine and I cant find the correct results for the test for phosphates. I have here the procedure andd I would like to know what would be its results and the principle behind it. Here is the procedure:

To 5ml urine:

a. Add diluted NH4OH. Observe the color of the solution.

b. Warm the mixture gently and filter. To the filtrate, add a few drops of magnesia mixture then warm gently.

I would like to ask these questions:
1. How many ml or drops of NH4OH shall I add to the urine?
2. What would be the color after I add the NH4OH to the urine and why such reaction happened?
3. Why is there a need to warm the mixture and filter it?
4. How many drops of magnesia mixture shall I add to the filtrate?
5. What is the importnace of magnesia mixture for this phosphate test for urine?
6. What is the positive result in determining the phosphates in urine.

Thank you so much.

It is a forum rule that you must show an attempt first, before we can help you.  In addition, it would be helpful to know whether or not you are working from a published procedure, and if so, which one.
