How exothermic are typical aldol condensation reactions?
« on: March 01, 2015, 02:18:40 AM »
How exothermic are typical aldol condensation reactions (to the final alkene product i.e. dehydration included)? I'm using a conc. H2SO4 catalyst so is most of the exotherm from that heat of dilution? Liq. phase.

Or are the aldol condensations by themselves exothermic.

Based on heat of dilution I'm estimating ~11 kJ/gmol of reaction.

I'm finding phrases like "mildly exothermic" or "modestly exothermic" online.
