They do not use salt at airports.

For tarmac or for planes?

Typically banned from anywhere inside the fence of an airfileld.
I have forgotten what they do just outside the fence.

@lindgren21
But, driveways are usually black or gray and I would ,match those colors
Or use a color acceptable.
I am assuming you are using rum production residuel because it is cheaper than salt or urea -
so we do not want to add too much to the cost with any solution to the product you are using.
And,  we do not want it to be much more toxic than what you are doing.
Yes, it is a interesting problem.

Sorry, for anywhere that planes would go.

Just another random thought

Why not leach through a filter and see if the clear liquid works as good as the dark.
I think this is a long shot since what you are starting with is the residue of a distilling process.

looks like a diarrhea accident has been left all over the driveway.  Customers dont like that...
You don't say?? :)

Why don't you just use salt?

(Speaking to the actual topic, hydrogen peroxide or bleach are your best inexpensive bets. But: I don't know much about the de-icing powers of rum byproducts, but if you start adding other chemicals to it, you may destroy the de-icing powers OR cause side problems your customers or local authorities don't want. E.g., bleach may do the trick, but I don't know that many people will want it running off into their lawns, and local and state laws may have something to say about spraying oxidizing chemicals all over driverways.)

So i finally had a chance to apply hydrogen peroxide. It had little a#ect. I dont have a background in chemistry so the best way i could describe what happened is i applied a 1:1 ratio of each but they didnt mix together. The dark rum product stayed at the bottom and the peroxide appeared to float atop... any other ideas?

Try heating the two phases, they should mix.

Can you use a stirrer? That usually works.

Also, peroxide alone won't work very well. Use Fenton's Reagent.

Why don't we get back to basics here ?

1.  What volume (gallons) of distillation bottoms do you usually acquire ?

2.  What is the consistency ? Relate it to clear honey/treacle/molasses/motor oil etc.

3.  What volume (gallons) do you usually take out on your truck ?
