Help in Balancing Chemical Equation.
« on: March 28, 2015, 07:30:52 AM »
I got stucked while balancing a chemical equation,

HCl + As2O3 + NaNO3  + H2O = NO + H3AsO4 + NaCl

I can solve upto ,

HCl + As2O3 + NaNO3  + H2O = NO + 2H3AsO4 + NaCl

Got the balanced equation from a online chemical equation balancer (https://www.easycalculation.com/chemistry/balancing-equations.php), as
4HCl + 3As2O3 + 4NaNO3 + 7H2O → 4NO + 6H3AsO4 + 4NaCl

It would be helpful if the steps was given, some one help me to solve this.

This is a redox reaction. Seems like the best approach will be to split it into the oxidation half reaction and reduction half reaction.

Can you start by determining what is getting oxidized into what, and what is getting reduced into what?
