Chemical analysis of soil nuitrants
« on: April 07, 2015, 01:33:10 PM »
I bought and used a soil testing kit where pellets of unknown chemical were disolved in a water solution taken from a soil sample. The resulting color matching gives information as to whether the soil is deficient in nitrogen, potassium, and phosphorous. I suspect the color indicates the amount of the nitrogen, potassium,or phosphorus ion.

Can someone tell me where I can get information as to what the chemical interaction is and what is the chemical in the pellets.

Thanks

Good morning,

You should always consult the safety data sheet. There you will find always the components.

I know that this site aims to avoid easy answers, and make the user search for itself, but for example this kit https://www.enasco.com/product/C14572N , has this safety data sheets: https://www.enasco.com/pdfs/msds/3753a.pdf

Haven't seen the nitrogen extraction compounds, but I seem to recall that you could extract nitrogen with HCl.
