Naming a Compound
« on: April 20, 2015, 09:02:34 PM »
Hello all -

This is my first time posting.   I am working on a problem for synthesizing a complicated molecule.   I think the naming is done after the parent arene - nitrobenzene.  Part of the substituent is an N,N - dimethylamide, but the R group of the amide is not attached directly to the ring.   Instead, the R is an ethyl group attached to the ring in the para position.

I am having tough time figuring out how to attached an image from my computer.

Help in naming the molecule is greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Please see the attached for naming.

N,N-dimethyl-2-(4-nitrophenyl)acetamide?

Thanks.

N,N-dimethyl-2-(4-nitrophenyl)acetamide?

Yeah. Being picky, I will point out that the N's should be italicised, i.e. N,N-dimethyl-2-(4-nitrophenyl)acetamide, but otherwise that's the IUPAC name.

By the way, a good free website to check names is http://www.chemicalize.org/
