calculating specific rotation.
« on: April 22, 2015, 05:46:55 AM »
For an experiment I must calculate the specific rotation of sucrose. Standard solutions were analysed polarimetry and a calibration curve created.

"Calculate specific rotation from the slope of the graph".

I calculated the slope of the graph:

difference in y values = 45
difference in x values = 28

y/x = 1.60

So now I need to use the equation [a]/1 x c

I am assuming its [1.6]/1 x c.

My question being which concentration do I use? an average, or the concentration of the unknown, determined from the calibration curve?

Cheers
