Reaction of FeCl3
« on: April 29, 2015, 04:58:42 PM »
Hi,

I am currently aware that the reaction of FeCl3 with phenol is as follows:

6C6H5OH + FeCl3 --> [Fe(C6H5O)6]3- + 3HCl + 3H+

However, what would be the product formed with 2-hydroxybenzaldehyde?

With the addition of the -CHO group to the compound, I am not sure how this affects the product formed.

Could you give me an insight into what would happen in this case?

Thanks a lot
