I am trying to do a question where two ink dyes are separated on two separate chromatograms under identical conditions and the aim is to calculate the Rf values of the components to see if there are any components which are common to both dyes. One component on the first chromatogram has a Rf of 0.65. There is another component on the second chromatogram which has a Rf of 0.63. Are these values close enough to conclude that the spots were due to the presence of the same substance? Is there a general margin of error allowed when comparing Rf values in situations like this or if you are comparing experimentally obtained Rf values with those on a database?

Yes I think 0,63 and 0,65 is definitely close enough. You can verify bu running the samples again in different mobile phase.
